The Running Man is Edgar Wright’s biggest movie to date!! It reminds you the joy of cinema and those epic Sci-fi movie-run in the 2010s. In many ways this movie doesn’t feel 2025 at all, it harkens back to when Hollywood makes movies that feel expensive and a bit quirky. Glenn Powell fits the role pretty well and Edgar Wright as always, entertains with very slick visuals and fun editing. The whole film is very pop and circumstance in a pretty way, might be a tad too clean to my taste, I would prefer the film to be grittier for its subject matter. My biggest gripe with the movie is how it doesn’t actually feel too suspenseful, it is a bit too safe in its tone management, kind of living in this awkward space where it is not funny enough to be a comedy, but not serious enough to be a dystopian Sci-fi thriller. At the end it’s just a mix-mesh of both in a handsome fashion.Story wise it feels a bit quaint for 2025, I feel like with Black Mirror and Squid Game (which features way edgier and up-to-date concepts), The Running Man is just too predictable for it to be a unique story. At certain point, the movie is also just too content with plot armor and let things happen too conveniently. When it should be a story about nail-biting tension by surviving and fighting against impossible odds, Wright’s adaptation renders closer to a superhero underdog comic movie than an actual thriller. At certain point you just gotta admit you are watching a live action cartoon.Either way, just enjoy your time in the cinemas, this one is all fun and games, literally.Verdict: 79
